In 1996, feeling called to start a retreat for youth, we were led to 160 acres of undeveloped, unwanted land in Chriesman, Texas….land that happened to be owned by the Moody Bible Institute.

Weekend Warriors… we began spending weekends camping out and exploring the property.

Making inroads through the thick woods and yaupon was slow going

The first clearing was found, an abandoned well site!

The decision to move to Caldwell was followed by a fruitless house search - then  a great house became available when it's renters disappeared one night.

So, a family came together in Chriesman to serve: Nina, Scott and Jennifer, Jeremy,  and Hilda

Clearing continued as Jennifer began teaching at Caldwell ISD, and the rest of us looked for jobs!!!

The second Clearing was located.

A Business Plan for the non profit venture evolved

We found a house to move to Cross Roads for all of us to live in.    Before…

…And after the house movers!

We put it, and our lives, back together.

A few weeks later, on moving day, a rainbow reminded us of God's promise.

Carol & Crew served  food to campers from the house's little kitchen!

Two cabins were donated!

A Garage Sale at BEXCO raised money to finish out the cabin interiors

Dedicated volunteers pitched in to finish them.

It was truly a group effort.

The Lou Doiron-Lynn Niles Memorial Cabin and the El Shaddai Cabin began service.

Each cabin sleeps twenty.

The Dedication Ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Ernie Turney.

Meanwhile, Hilda & Nina needed their own house… another long search.  Then success…

Two halves arrived- a clean cut this time! Thank you, God!

 We salvaged some building materials donated by a closed nursing home.

Board members discussed future  plans for the camp.

 Enclosing and expanding the Pavilion into a dining hall and conference room was first on the list.

Pat Baker joined the Cross Roads Team, and Hilda & Pat were united in marriage by Reverend Steve Stigler at the Cross Roads Outdoor Sanctuary, ringed by Dogwood Trees in full bloom!

Afterwards, they celebrated with family and friends in the new dining hall.
